Brave Tuna Melt
Ingredients
- 1 (6 oz) can solid white tuna, drained (preferably in olive oil)
- 2–3 tbsp mayonnaise (adjust for creaminess)
- 2 tbsp finely diced celery
- 2 tbsp finely diced red onion
- 2 tsp fresh lemon juice
- 1–2 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
- 1 tbsp Brave Habanero Honey
- Salt & freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
- 4 slices good bread (country, sourdough, or white)
- 4 slices cheese (American, cheddar, Swiss, or your favorite meltable cheese)
- Butter or mayonnaise (for the outside of bread, for grilling)
Optional add-ons: tomato slices, capers, pickles, pepperoncini, fresh herbs
Instructions
1. Make the Tuna Salad
In a bowl, flake the drained tuna. Add mayo, celery, red onion, lemon juice, Dijon (if using), Habanero Honey, salt & pepper. Mix gently until combined but still has texture.
2. Assemble the Sandwich
- Spread butter or mayo on one side of each bread slice (the outer sides).
- On the unbuttered side of two slices, place a slice of cheese first — this helps with melting.
- Add the tuna salad over the cheese.
- Add any optional layers. Top with another slice of cheese if desired.
- Place the other bread slice on top, buttered side out.
3. Cook
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium to medium-low. Place sandwich buttered side down. Cook until golden brown and cheese starts melting (≈ 3–4 minutes). Cover briefly with a lid to help the cheese fully melt. Flip carefully and cook the other side until golden and gooey.
4. Serve
Let rest for ~1 minute. Slice in half and serve hot. Drizzle more Habanero Honey per bite for extra heat.
